Can someone point out the pros and cons of a Lamallae tube settler clarifier?

Much appreciated.

  1. Must be properly design such as the settling velocity of the flocs and the max flow. If not, you may experience some carry over flocs which will affect your final water quality.

  2. Pro:

High removal in a small footprint.

Cost-effective way to upgrade an existing plant

Cost-effective on sites that have footprint issues, such as coastal sites

May enhance the removal of suspended solids

    Con:

May perform badly if flows exceed design maximum

Will perform badly if sludge blanket is allowed to get high and enter tubes

    Tubes may break

Tube less easy to clean than plates, if they get fouled

UK experience is that they require regular cleaning, so may impose greater operational cost

Shorter life than conventional concrete-based settling tanks

Typically produce larger volumes of sludge, with lower DS, than conventional systems

  3. Definite advantage in terms of space relative to conventional Dortmund or flat bottomed scraped settlers

Be wary of spacing between plates and angle of plates - there are minimum design criteria

work well on inorganic chemical treatment processes and low sludge biological process applications, as secondary settling behind RBC for example

But be mindful of bio fouling at high sludge concentrations

anything else, drop me a line

    regards

    1. This facility is for a drinking water treatment plant and hence i feel biological process shall not be of prime importance.  Moreover, the highest level of turbidity around the year is 90 NTU maximum.
