Mixing Ferrous Sulphate Heptahydrate

Published on by in Technology

I am working on a project that requires mixing ~ 10 tonnes of FeSO4 in 25,000 litres of water.

Does anyone have experience with mixing this product and could provide information on how miscible it is and the likely time it might take to mix this quantity?

I intend to use a 35,000-litre batch mixing tank equipped with dual Series 45 Model GDFTGA agitators and high-efficiency fluidfoil impellers.

Any information greatly appreciated.

  1. Solubility of Ferrous Sulphate Heptahydrate is 256 g/l at 20°C. However solution you are making is of 400 g/l. Therefore you have use minimum 40000l of water to prepare saturated solution.

  2. Use PPE protect Skin and eyes. Fill the tank with 25.000 ltr of water and then sack by Sack is to bring inside under mixing conditions. after roughly 1 ton inside have a look with a torch is all diluted, than go farther. Exotherm I'm not sure, but I think it's not as much. measure temperature before starting and after 1 ton solved check temperature again. Avoid temperatures over 45 deg C as maybe SO3/SO2 could outgas decent on quality of the salt. Smells like that take breather mask and acidic filter.

  3. I would also want to know if that is exothermic. That is a whole bunch compared to what we mix for lab studies.
