Potable Water Distribution to Disperse Communities

Published on by in Social

La Guajira, Colombia has over 3500 communities, with an average population of 20. Total 70,000 hab over a large area 21,000 sq-km

The water source is underground and/or desalination.

Lack of fresh potable water is one of the main causes of children's death.

I am seeking design ideas, previous experiences, installed solutions, commissioned projects, etc., all are welcome.

  1. There are several options in the market. Most important is to specify your water feed source, the population to be serve and power viability in the area.

In the past we serve small communities with our emergency mobile units. But for your case it needs to be evaluated based on social and financial situation of each community.

More than welcome to send me an email and chat more in details regarding your request.

  2. Dear Fernando, a couple of ideas - one is the biosand filter  which is a household system effectively an indoor slow sand filter - see link (https://www.cawst.org/services/expertise/biosand-filter/more-information)

.The other is our ClariWash self washing filtration system suitable for communities up to 200 households - see leaflet attached. Let me know if you need more details -  nigel.heeler@waterreach.co.uk

Both systems are for micro-biological contamination - not for desalination of groundwater.

  7. Hello, you write your water sources are underground and or desalination but your average yearly rainfall is over 1100 mm per year.  Is this rainfall data correct?  do you use impermeable surfaces to collect water in tanks etc?
