I'm looking for a product that can reduce contaminants in a trench filled with gravel.

  1. You should be treating the water before it gets into the trench.

      1. If it is all running off in to one trench collect it without the gravel and then you can clean it and re use the water on the golf course and playing fields. This would help pay for the costs of the equipment.

        To help we would need to know the flow rate and if it is continuous. We would need a 5 litre sample of the water which we would do an analysis on to confirm that it can be cleaned.

        It is possible to remove all organic and most metals from the water into a dry granular waste.

    1. Basically we are looking to remove the surface water from building sites, primarily housing, we do this with a small trench 300/600mm wide and 1.5-2m deep with our system of drilling at the bottom of the trench

       

      We are filling the trench with 20mm washed gravel which is wrapped with Terram

       

      As a company we deal with surface water issues, we are being driven by the market to deal with larger volumes of water, from 3³m to 900³m

       

      To date we have been dealing with Sports fields, so contaminants have not been a problem.

       

      We are now moving in to the housing sector where contaminants such as Fuel and Salt from the roads can be a problem

       

      Any assistance would be appreciated

    1. kind and concentration of the "contaminants"

    2. volume of water to be treated

    3. use of the treated water

    4. location of the affected site

    1. 1/ Contaminants could be petrol

      2/ Volume  is anything from 3-50,000 cubic m

      3/ Water not being used for anything

      1. We have equipment that would remove the petrol, oil and any other organic material from the water, to allow disposal of the water.

        The equipment has been in use by the Hungarian Army and Audi Hungary for years.

        The equipment can be installed on a lorry making it mobile.

    1) which kind of contaminants are there (chemical tests)?

    2) area of trench and nature of gravel?

      The contaminants are likely to be Fuel, the trench is dependent upon the volume we have to accommodate this could range from 2n -200m 

      300mm wide and 1.5m deep, infilled with 20mm washed gravel

  7. If its a closed and non ferrous trench then ozone works well by disintegrating most of the solid contaminants. Ozone has been tried to reduce the TSS load. There are no residues of ozone but oxygen hence no addition in COD/BOD. Moreover the slimy layers created by microbes is a major issue in gravel trenches, such layers are killed by ozone. If it is an open trench, you can arrange simple Ozone bubbling at various points through a small pipe burried under gravel with multiple holes at small distances. This will solve your problems completely for long term without chlorine and chemicals with added advantage of reduced or disintegrated solids. No foul smell is a bonus!

  8. Normally Cl would be used but as bacteria  will use particles to be transported so a Micro filter  is the way to go now as Milch is filtered in that way now and then lasts longer
