  1. It depends on the sludge characteristics. Treatment may have to be given for the sludge which is difficult to dewater. Primary & Secondary sludge are to be thickned in the Thickner and then dewatered by various methods available.

If sludge has biodegradable organic matter then anaerobic treatment can generate the biogas.

Sludge can also be considered for recovery. For example sludge from Pulp and paper mill is used as raw material in Board Mills.

  2. Abdullah ALYAHYAI ,

In my particular view, the first approach, if you already have a sewage treatment system in operation, is to consider what can be extract from the sludge, before disposal. For example, energy and nutrients can be recovered from sludge, in many different ways, according to your operational needs and conditions, legal demands and financial capacity. By doing so, waste disposal, environmental liabilities and the emission of greenhouse gases can be minimized, or even transformed into some product that can reduces your operating costs or generates revenue for your operation.
Simple solutions such as anaerobic digester can meet de demands of a small-scale cases, recovering energy in the form of biogas and reducing the volume of sludge being discharged. On another side of the complexity scale, I recommend visiting the DC Water website (https://www.dcwater.com/biosolids) and viewing its biosolids management program. Between this two ways, a lot of different solutions and technologies (dewatering, drying, composting, etc.) can be applied, but it is totally necessary to know better the specific technical and financing situation to recommend you the best concept.

  3. The most environmentally friendly and hygienic technology is
bioengineering technology for the high-speed processing of dehydrated sludge into solid fuel, compost or fertilizer (depending on contamination). Without emissions, odors and wastewater. Specific recommendations or consultations for specific conditions - services are paid.

  4. We are a producer of sludge dryers. According with our experience we can say that in the norther part of Italy the WWTP disidrate the sludge and send them to composting process and after to fields (cost 100 €/ton). The compost company prefer a dry sludge with 70% of DM. In the south of Italy the WWTP send the sludge to landfill. in Austria and Germany often the sludge is burned. 5. WE THINK THAT THE BEST WAY FOR SLUDGE TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL IS SOLAR DRYING AND INCINERATION AT SITE. BY DOING THIS THE LAND REQUIRED FOR THE SOLAR DRYING SYSTEM WILL BE SMALLER AND THE OURCOME AS ASH WILL BE A VALUABLE MATERIAL.

DRIED SLUDGE MAY BE SENT TO CEMENT FACTORIES
