The most efficient way to keep from having extended sludge age. Once you have the problem, it is customary to feed bleach to the RAS. This will kill the filamentous and they will become food back into your system. When filamentous show, that is usually the sign of an aged sludge. You will typically also have bulking at the same time. Hope this helps.
