Good question, In RO system chlorination is widely used, the purpose of disinfection in RO desalination is to prevent the colonization of microbes at the surface of membranes but it has several disadvantages also as following.
- Formation of disinfection by-products and being ineffective against some types of microbes.
- This review aims to discuss the adverse effect of chlorination on reverse osmosis membranes and to identify other possible alternatives of chlorination to reduce befouling of the membranes.
- Reverse osmosis membrane degradation and mitigation of chlorines effects, along with newly emerging disinfection technologies, providing insight to both academic institutions and industries for the design of improved reverse osmosis systems.

The RO membrane could influent by chloride concentration and soak time, so you should balance when you control the biological fouling.

Your question is not clear. Chlorine is beneficial in controlling biological fouling of SWRO systems and membranes. However, continuous chlorination can hydrolyze permeates and for polyamide membranes it should be removed by SBS before reaching the membrane.

Your Ro system is saved

You should use ClO2 to avoid damage and not chloride!!!
