Ceramic Membrane over Conventional MF/UF?
Published on by Anvar Ahemad Faiyasudin Mansuri, Proposal & Procecss in Technology
I am looking for help regarding the selection of ceramic membrane filtration over conventional MF/UF membrane systems.
Also, what is the type of backwashing & cleaning facility required for ceramic membranes?
What is a sprinkler pump? Why is it required for ceramic membrane filtration?

Depending on your application. We are currently building a 200 MLD plant using ceramic membranes for potable application. A bacKwash vessel is coupled to each membrane vessel and is used to back pulse at 4 Bar pressure every 15 min filtration cycle.

hi Kenneth. what is the type of the backwash vessel you are using? I am trying to draw a parallel from the PES/PVDF fibre based UF backwashing system. can we draw backwash water from the same tank where we store the permeate for downstream RO process?

Silicon Carbide membranes are great choice for MF/UF systems. Literature is provided for you.

Depending upon your application as it is not an absolute phenomenon. Theoretically it should work on all application. However, we are currently changing a ceramic membrane system in a heavy metal treatment process with a PTFE type membrane as it has been plugging and requiring cleaning periodically. The company that installed it could not make it work. You want to start with your wastewater characteristics and analysis and do a pilot test before making that decision.

I suggest you look at our website. We are not presently selling outside of China and the USA, but at least you can learn about pressurized ceramic dead end UF from our case studies and other literature on our site: https://www.nanostone.com/ceramic-technology

Very interesting! Are these going to be available in Europe?
