Food tin cans are also coated with plastic and that's why people were recently concerned about BPA getting in their canned food. When aluminum/tin/steel cans are recycled, I hope that the combustion of the metal eliminates the possibility of plastic getting into natural waters (as along as combustion pollution controls are adequate).
