Feasible method for purifying the water with TDS level of 2600 ppm.

Published on by in Technology

Dear friends I have a querry about purifying our area water with TDS level 2600 ppm, it is said that domestic purifying systems are not suitable for purifying water for this TDS level. Can some one suggest us a proper purifying method for this tds level and that should be an economical option. (chepset among all methods available)

We can also go for desalination plant if it is feasiible to establish it on a small scale. (We want water for 2000 people daily.)

I appriciate your work and I also tried getting answer from the existing questions on this portal. But we are really looking for some cheap and simple options. Your sugetions are very much appriciated. Thank you.

  1. Assuming, it is question of just TDS reduction, RO could be one of the solutions. Nano Filtration may also work if hardness is the major problem and water can brought to within applicable drinking water limits by reducing the hardness only.

  2. Hello Tina, We have developed a system that creates a sonic boom and turns water to steam. Salt and impurities exit the machine as a dry pathogen free powder.Water is mineral , solids and pathogen free.Filters are not used in this system. Power equates to, 1kw will produce 0.92 ltrs of purified water. Units range from 7 kw to 300kw. If you are interested rick.j.wadley@gmail.com Rick Wadley

    Dear Tina,

Why not go for a solution in which your TDS water is mixed with water collected from rainwater harvesting. Once the water is below 500 TDS/ppm it can be purified withour RO and be consumed easily thereafter.

Please visit our website http://www.aaws.nl and don't  hesitate in contacting us if more information needed.

Good luck in finding the right solution.

  4. Tina. You could try small water filters with a so called backwash system. Some options are Sawyer filters, Price 50-150 US$, filter capacity ca 15 -30 ltrs /hour Tulip Siphon filter Price 20- 30 US$, filter capacity ca 5 ltrs/ hour Henk Holtslag

the only technology we know and use is The Jepson.  You will hear a lot about this in 2014 as we launch its interface with brine concentrate reduction and other applications.  It is 90+ efficient and sends NO waste back into the sea.  Want more info on it, call me  907 229 5328 or email me and I'll send you the overview.  pm@cyalaska.com

  6. UF followed by RO

I 100% agree with Mr.Murali Kochukrishnan that UF followed by RO is the best option to treat TDS.  There are ways of decreasing the cost of RO treatment as well.  For example, you could treat all of the raw water with the UF membranes to remove suspended solids and some microbiology.  A RO could be used treat a slip-stream of the UF permeate.  The RO permeate could then be blended back with the remainder of the UF permeate to create a lower TDS water.  However, a chemical characterization should be performed on the raw water and treated waters to ensure that the ionic constituents in the final water are within safe ranges.  For example, sulfate is a constituent of the TDS.  If sulfate in the final water is above 600 ppm, it can have laxative effects on infants.  I also recommend that the water then be disinfected (chlorine, ozone, UV, etc).

  7. TDS

    Tina

Please remember that TDS is not ordinarily considered a pollutant and therefore not normally associated with health effects. TDS refers to the aesthetics of drinking water and the presence of various chemicals, good and bad.

You will need to understand the water in it's original form and get a handle on the presence of harmful constituents, before making a decision, but If the aesthetics is not really a major consideration and you need to ensure good potability then have a look at Aqua Salveo, a non-chlorine based, non-toxic, odourless and tasteless water disinfectant. AS will remove 99,9% of all bacteria and preserve the potability of the water for up to six years! Go to http://www.gurumanzi.com and get some more info.(the site may be down for a short while, for maintenance) but send me your email address and I will send you some info ASAP.   You can order samples online.   John Allen john@gurumanzi.co.za

  8. Make your own water from air.

Tina, avoid ongoing costs and just make your own pure water from air.  Visit our website: www.ecoloblue.com and give me a call (Doug Davis) 800-691-6043 or email me davisd@ecoloblue.com anyone else reading this is welcome to do the same. Our largest single unit can produce up to 6,000 liters per day. Harvest the humidity, we can put healthy minerals into the water as well. We can even increase the alkaline level if desired.  Stop trying to fix the bad water you have and make your own healthy clean water instead. This is very cost effective, I look forward to hearing from you.

  9. You do not mention the mineral content. If there are no harmful elements (e.g. Arsenic, Nitrates) there may be no need to filter, or the water may only need pretreatment to remove sedimentation, etc. If there are no harmful elements, why remove beneficial minerals? Do you have a mineral analysis report?

  10. desalination plant

    P { margin-bottom: 0.08in; }

A properly sized desalination plant would handle this without and technological problems. If you could utilize a wast heat source to pre-heat your inlet water then the costs per cubic meter would be competitive with ultra filtration and RO.

  11. Tina & others in need of very real solution to community drinking water needs. I offer a turnkey solution that is fully self contained, very advanced and very robust. The system can produce pure water from any source, even sea water and contaminated boreholes. The system can be placed in very remote locations in any climate. The process uses no chemicals or consumables and is very efficient & effective. The system can be monitored and controlled locally, from a central location or from our factory in the US. AND the system comes with a written money back performance guarantee AND 2 years of free service parts and labor included!! Power options include, grid, diesel gensets, Solar & gasification. If you are looking for a serious, real solution please contact me.

  12. Mr.Murali kochukrishnan.

The Best possible method to be used to reduce the TDS is ULTRA FILTRATION technique followed by REVERSE OSMOSIS.

Ultra filtration is one of a low pressure membrane filtration to selectively remove suspended and colloidal particles up to a level of 0.001 micron in size. UF is generally used as a  pre-treatment to RO plants.

Reverse osmosis is an advanced technique, which has the ability to separate smallest of the particles, molecules and ions. Reverse osmosis supplements conventional techniques; it takes up where the conventional methods are unable to show satisfactory effects. R.O. is especially suitable for areas with high level of Total Dissolved Solids (T.D.S.) and Hardness. R.O. makes saline and brackish water palatable and tastier by reducing TDS and hardness. R.O. also makes the water both chemically and microbiologically safe by reducing Pesticides, Fluoride, hazardous metals contaminants like Lead, mercury, Arsenic etc. and eliminates water borne disease-causing micro-organisms.

An R.O. water purification device is equipped with a Membrane filtration module having very fine pore size of 0.0001 micron. Raw water is pushed under a high pressure through this membrane filter. The output water that finally comes through the membrane filter is free from Total Dissolved Solids, Hardness, Micro-organisms and chemical contaminants.

In case of R.O., pure water is extracted from the impure supply water. R.O. produces 1 liter of purified water from 3 liters of raw impure water. Two liters of waste water is rejected . This waste water can be utilized for wiping the floor, car wash or watering the plants.

  13. purifying your area water with TDS level 2600 ppm

Dear Thompson,  You have'nt mentioned the source of water. I presume it is a ground ( borewell) water unless its a seawater contaminated. Fir Borewell water, if TDS is only concern aspect and you r open to even desalination, I suggest to go for SSF / MCF / RO scheme.
