Published on by in Academic

Hello Everyone,

My name is Ivan Mantilla and I am student of the program MSc. Urban Water Engineering and Management in IHE-UNESCO (Delft, Netherlands)  joint with Asian Institute of Technology (Bangkok, Thailand).  In the next months, I am going to start my thesis and I would like to do a research project related to Flood Control or Urban Drainage.

I appreciate if you have any contact or know an organization in which I could develop my project and thus establish a mutual relationship in order to apply my knowledge and improve my competencies in this areas.

Regards,

Ivan M.

  2. Dear Ivan,

I suggest you contact the Urban Drainage Group at CIWEM (Chartered Institution for Water and Environmental Management).  http://www.ciwem.org/groups/urban-drainage-group/

    and/or http://www.ciwem.org/policy/flooding/

There are many professionals working in the area of Urban Drainage and/or Flood Control who are part of UDG/CIWEM.  They will also be able to point you to some very useful papers and/or reports/publications (eg the 'Journal of Flood Risk Management') that might help you.  you can email them on udg@ciwem.org

Hope this helps - let me know if you have any difficulty in access/contacting them.

  3. I have designed many  systems. Flood control/drainage are within my prevue.  We will have to discuss which you prefer. All inclusive or a new cutting edge technology.  Just as an example. The average size tree has the respiration rate of 300 gallons of water a day.  Calculate amount of flood waters in a drainage zone and then plant trees sufficient for a 10 year, 50 year or a 100 year flood.  To reduce the cost of the program plant hard wood trees with nuts like pecan, walnut and others.   Many other equally simple and economically beneficial examples.  You may use skype to communicate.   guy_mcgowen   Hope this helps.  If you live in Netherlands you may want to look at the new accelerated poder building technology.    Wees Voorzichtig. (Take care).
