Impact on flexible hose pipes for careful use of irrigation water

Myself and few others working in agri-mechanization in South/SE Asia have remarked to our irrigation colleagues and others that starting 15 or more years ago the introduction and growth in market/use of locally extruded flex hose pipes in 2-6 inch range for flood irrigation usually from STW based diesel or electric pumps servicing 2-5 ha area.
15 years later I am still amazed that very little or no academic study on the spread and impact of this so simple water management technology.
We would like hear from others who might know of literature or research or case studies on this topic..
