List of firms dedicated to pollution remediation and/or collecting floating macro-waste
Published on by Aymeric Jouon, Hydro-Cote & I Clean My Sea CEO
Hi all,
I know a few local initiatives that tackle the field of pollution remediation through macro-waste collecting at the sea surface.
Would you know names of firms who have invested in setting up pollution remediation plans, including systematic floating waste collection ?
Best regards,
Aymeric

Hi Aymeric,
I only know a few firms that collect floating waste like: "Ecoboat" in Rio (http://www.ecoboatambiental.com.br/) or "Mr Trash Wheel" in Baltimore (http://baltimorewaterfront.com/healthy-harbor/water-wheel/).
Also, during our Race for Water Odyssey stopover in Hawaii, we have learned more about a great derelict fishing gear removal project "Fishing For Energy" (http://www.nfwf.org/fishingforenergy/Pages/home.aspx), a partnership with NOAA's Marine Debris Program, NFWF and Covanta Energy Corporation - Schnitzer Steel Industries, both industries that we had a chance to visit.
Regarding derelict fishing gear removal, I suggest you to have a look at the Global Ghost Gear Initiative website: http://www.ghostgear.org/solutions?lat=3.425691524418062&lng=-70.6640625&zoom=3, which brings interesting solutions worlwide on this issue.
Kind regards,
Kim

Aymeric,
I would like to ask you a question: what would be a good indicator for you that cleaning at sea surface is a good (or not so good) thing to do?
Thanks!
