Potable Water Distribution to Disperse Communities

Question

La Guajira, Colombia has over 3500 communities, with an average population of 20. Total 70,000 hab over a large area 21,000 sq-km
The water source is underground and/or desalination.
Lack of fresh potable water is one of the main causes of children's death. 
I am seeking design ideas, previous experiences, installed solutions, commissioned projects, etc., all are welcome.

There are several options in the market. Most important is to specify your water feed source, the population to be serve and power viability in the area.
In the past we serve small communities with our emergency mobile units. But for your case it needs to be evaluated based on social and financial situation of each community.

Dear Fernando, a couple of ideas - one is the biosand filter  which is a household system effectively an indoor slow sand filter - see link (https://www.cawst.org/services/expertise/biosand-filter/more-information)

Both systems are for micro-biological contamination - not for desalination of groundwater.
