Water projects Investments Comparison
Published on by Sara Marks, Senior Scientist at Eawag
Can someone help me find a report or a website showing global investment trends in different types of infrastructure?
In particular, I'm interested in comparing investments in rural water projects to other types of infrastructure, such as urban water, sanitation, telecom, roads, etc.
The World Bank offers data by country, but does not aggregate by region or global and many countries are missing from their database.
Just rough numbers would be very helpful!

Bonjour SARA
Hello SARA
Investment on wastewater in rural sanitation is significantly lower than the investment in urban areas.
1 infrastructure are on less extensive surfaces 2 they are often individual, private
3 this concerns less population in terms of suees water treatment it seems more important to get the purification performance of infrastructure rather than his investment cost.
For example
In France the financial amount over 15 years of infrastructure of collection and management of faeces in urban configuration is estimated at over 1000 billion euros for a purification performance of ZERO.
The amount of rural infrastructure is 100 billion for purification performance of 5%
For me the financial amount of water treatment infrastructure has no limit if she is hyper efficient

Dear Sara,
Please find a Deloitte Report link about "Africa Construction". https://www2.deloitte.com/za/en/pages/infrastructure-and-capital-projects/articles/construction-trends-2016.html.
On page 6, you find information about investment projects by sector (energy, water, mining, real estate....)
Best regards

The best source for you would be the results of the UN B20 Finance and Infrastructure Task Force that will be made public in early July 2017 after its meeting in Berlin.

There isn't such a website as far as I know. The World Bank would have been the best bet. however, I found some sketchy comparison for WASH programme which compares countries -
I think you should also check annual reports for municipalities and or departments that responsible for water services in specific countries.

Arcadis has an interesting report ranking infrastructure Investment, however still does not handle sector ranking.
