Although the city of Salem (Virginia) Water Treatment Plant faces challenges with variable source water quality coming out of the Roanoke River, especially during heavy rains, the facility was designed well enough to handle it. “We do have great pre-sedimentation basins that really help filter out the sediment before it comes into the plant,” says Larado Robinson, director of water and sewer.
