About 70 holders of relatively junior water rights in eastern Idaho were notified on January 17 of curtailment by the Idaho Department of Water Resources. The users are located on the Eastern Snake River Plain above the same-named aquifer, and were not among the participants in a regional mitigation program (which would have exempted them from curtailments). The curtailment relates to protection of senior water right holders and levels in the large aquifer below.
