This research article, published recently (June 2026) has investigated one of the
main water resources in the Middle East. It is the Saq-Disi Aquifer System (SDAS),
shared by Saudi Arabia (about 90% of the aquifer extent) and Jordan (about
10% of the aquifer extent). SDAS is saturated with fossil water dated back to the
Ice Age between 10,000-40,000 years. The sandstone rocks of SDAS have the age
of Cambro-Ordovician (about 450-500 million years old).
