Dear Industry Colleague, Greetings from Water Today! We are glad to announce the 12th Edition of Water Today’s WATER EXPO 2018, after successfully benchmarking in the water and wastewater industry! WATER EXPO 2018 and WATMAN 2018 International Conference will be held on 8th, 9th & 10th February 2018 at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, Chennai. Every year, Water Today publishes EXPO SPECIAL exclusively catering to Water and Wastewater Industry. The Expo Special will be a massive and extensive compilation showcasing addresses, orientation and contact details of exhibitors’ profile who have participated in WATER EXPO 2018. The Expo Special will be focusing on Biological Wastewater & Waste Treatment Solutions. Please find below the theme note and do let us know if you could send us your article.Theme note - Biological Wastewater & Waste Treatment Solutions – Feb 2018 issueRapidly growing population, urbanization and economic development caused significant increase in the volume of wastewater in the past century, resulting in to subsequent deterioration of environment due to wastewater being discharged into watercourses. Human sewage and process waste from manufacturing industries are the two major sources of wastewater. If untreated, and discharged directly to the environment, the receiving waters would become polluted and water-borne diseases would be widely distributed. The early 20th century witnessed advances in biological treatment methods, which is now the basis of wastewater treatment worldwide. Besides it’s effective and more economical than many mechanical or chemical processes. Biological wastewater treatment is a process that seems simple on the surface since it uses natural processes to help with the decomposition of organic substances, but in fact, it’s a complex, not completely understood process at the intersection of biology and biochemistry. Biological treatments rely on bacteria, nematodes, or other small organisms to break down organic wastes using normal cellular processes. Wastewater typically contains a buffet of organic matter, such as garbage, wastes, and partially digested foods. It may also contain pathogenic organisms, heavy metals, and toxins. The type of biological treatment selected for wastewater treatment, whether aerobic or anaerobic, depends on a wide range of factors, including compliance with environmental regulations on discharge quality. Researchers continue to look for ways to optimize conventional biological wastewater treatment. When considering biological wastewater treatment for a particular application, it is important to understand the sources of the wastewater generated, typical wastewater composition, discharge requirements, events and practices within a facility that can affect the quantity and quality of the wastewater, and pretreatment ramifications. Consideration of these factors will allow you to maximize the benefits your plant gains from effective biological treatment. While biological treatment has a long history, it’s continuing to evolve in ways that make it more effective, efficient, and available. The February 2018 issue will be focusing on addressing the challenges and put forth the latest trends and analysis in the biological wastewater treatments in order to achieve improvements in the quality of the wastewater. We would like to invite you to share your experiences in the form of articles, technical papers and case studies with our readers. Please inform us of your intent to contribute at the earliest, so that we can evaluate the articles for the publication.
