For improved and more equitable management of water resources for current and future generations, USAID has launched two projects in Senegal: Gire and Wash-Services. The Integrated Water Resources Management (Gire) project in Senegal is an activity aimed at increasing inclusive economic growth through improved and more equitable management of water resources for current and future generations.
It is funded by USAID to the tune of $12 million (6.6 billion CFA francs) over several years. It will be implemented in partnership with water and sanitation institutions, communities, private sector actors, civil society organizations and beneficiaries, through a strategic set of mutually supporting activities.
This water management will contribute to the achievement of the following three objectives: improving the availability, management and use of water resources data; increasing the transparency and inclusiveness of water resources governance at the national and local levels, taking into account climate change; and increasing the availability, efficient use and equity of water resources.
The project was at the heart of discussions yesterday during a workshop to evaluate and update the Gender Institutionalization Plan (PIG) of the Ministry of Water and Sanitation. The aim was to support the Directorate of Water Resources Management and Planning (DGPRE) to implement the actions of the Strategic Plan for the Mobilization of Water Resources (PSMRE) and the new Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) framework.
