A "Water Ethics Charter" is under development and we welcome interested businesses, cities, institutes, or NGOs to join the process. The idea is to come up with a succinct set of principles relating to environment (rights of nature / rights of people to a healthy environment), social issues (community-driven participatory governance, human right to water), cultural sovereignty (e.g., for indigenous and traditional communities), and economic efficiency (minimize waste). Companies, cities, and other organizations would endorse the Charter, or could adapt our default Charter to their own liking. We will present the Charter at the April 2015 World Water Forum in South Korea and hope to have at least a few key endorsements by then, and will continue promoting the Charter through 2016(?). The organizations on our Steering Committee thus far include the Water-Culture Institute and the French Water Academy [joint secretariat], the Botin Foundation (Madrid), Académie de l'éthique (Paris), the Club of Rome (Zurich), UNESCO, and Alliance for Water Stewardship. We are actively recruiting new partners and anticipate our first Steering Committee meeting in Jan/Feb 2014. For details see the Initiative webpage on the Water-Culture Institute website: http://www.waterculture.org/Water_Ethics_Charter.html or contact me at dgroenfeldt[at]waterculture.org. [I am also attaching a 2-page concept note describing the Initiative]
