Peter Brabeck- Lemathe Chairman of Nestle spoke yesterday to the European parliament and the IMD alumni club in Lausanne Switzerland about water management and biofuels. Points that he made in his speech included: - 38% in Bangladesh are being poisoned from arsenic poluted water - Water, Energy Agriculture nexus is real, cited the example of a global shortage of diesel fuel due to water issues in China - 97% of water utilities are public so government management is key - we have exceeded already peak water, this creates first an environmental crisis, then a social crisis - it takes 9100 liters of water to produce one liter of biodiesel.
