Unprecedented Dry Weather
For a region that is usually known for its rain and abundant fresh water, Southland in New Zealand is currently facing almost drought-like conditions. Facing the driest year since our records began in1970. This region, which is highly reliant on agriculture (Dairy, Sheep, Beef, and Venison) is facing issues on multiple fronts. Today saw New Zealand's Ministry for Primary Industries declare a Medium Adverse Conditions event due to the significantly dry weather and the adverse affect it is having on our rural communities. Additionally the Regional Council (Environment Southland) has instigated its regulatory powers and issued what's called a Water Shortage Direction. This is unprecedented and uncharted territory Southland. It has really hit home how much we rely on Water and what a precious resource it is.

The irony is that at the other end of New Zealand they are experiencing serious flooding.
