OSGOF move to strengthen national geospatial data infrastructure
The Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGOF) has expressed its readiness to support the Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC), with a renewed commitment to the establishment of a robust National Geospatial Data Infrastructure (NGDI) for the country.

The pledge was made when the Surveyor General of the Federation, Surv. Abdulganiyu Adebomehin Adeyemi, hosted the Executive Director of NIWRMC, Engr. Abdulmumin Mohammed Zaria, and his management team at the OSGOF headquarters in Abuja.

Adebomehin, in his welcome address, highlighted OSGOF’s extensive data resources and technical expertise, particularly in hydrography. He noted that the agency possesses advanced equipment capable of precise environmental and geographical measurements.

“You are in the right place. We have a lot of data and equipment, including COR systems across the country. Our staff have the technical know-how, and we also provide training opportunities your people can join,” he said.

The Surveyor General assured NIWRMC of OSGOF’s full cooperation, citing past collaborations with other agencies through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

He also encouraged the Commission to prioritize manpower development and investment in software and data infrastructure.

“You must have a data center and laboratory because there are data that cannot be handled by computers anymore unless they are kept in the cloud,” he advised.

Adebomehin further emphasised the importance of reviving and optimizing the National Geospatial Data Infrastructure (NGDI) initiative to enhance inter-agency data sharing.
