Sweden's Shit Went North by Train. The Nutrients Never Came Back. | Birger Lundgren
Did you know that Stockholm sent thousands of containers of sewage sludge by train to northern Sweden every year? Not to farms. To copper mines.
In 2017 alone, the equivalent of 3,340 containers travelled north.
And this happened in one of the world's highest-ranked sanitation countries.
Nothing illegal. But surely worth questioning.
I dug into the Swedish records, and the story raises a much bigger question about what we call sustainable sanitation.
