Canadian Wave-powered desalination innovator Oneka Technologies and Chile-based Asfalcom have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to deploy wave-powered desalination technology at Asfalcom’s production facility in Chile, marking a first for industrial water users in South America.

According to Oneka Technologies, this collaboration will see the integration of the company’s ocean wave-powered desalination system, providing a sustainable water supply while reducing land and water consumption footprints.
The project aims to enhance water security for industrial operations, demonstrating both companies’ commitment to sustainable innovation, Oneka Technologies noted.
“This partnership with Asfalcom is a testament to our mission of providing innovative water solutions that align with sustainable development goals,” said Dragan Tutic, CEO of Oneka Technologies.
“We are thrilled to bring our wave-powered technology to Chile and work alongside Asfalcom in addressing the water challenges of the region.”
The project also signifies Oneka Technologies’ entry into the South American market, a region characterized by a strong demand for sustainable water solutions.
“Sustainability has been established in our company as one of the main axes in each of our areas that we are currently carrying out, and being part of a commitment as a country in terms of water together with cutting-edge, modern and robust technology, brings us closer and challenges us to continue developing alliances with companies such as Oneka Technologies that have the same vision as Asfalcom, aligned with sustainable objectives in an efficient manner,” said Asfalcom’s Sustainability and New Energies Manager, Diego Andrade.
In April 2023, Oneka Technologies unveiled the opening of its subsidiary in Chile, following the successful demonstration of its wave energy-powered desalination technology in the country.
