RESTORATION OF THE GANGES CANFOLLOW THE THAMES MODEL The Thames river in London, which was also called the 'Great Stink' in the mid -19th century. The Ganga action plan already launched in the mid 1980s has done very little in terms of reducing the toxic substance release from the 250 odd industries spread across the basin. The current capacity of the river basin is 50,500 million litres per day (MLD) and the ideal Waste water treatment plant capacity should be atleast 20 MLD and they should be spread to villages -- according to Mr. Natarajan who is a member of the working group of the state planning commission. http://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/energy-and-environment/ganga-cleanup-project-can-emulate-thames-model-says-expert/article6208492.ece?utm_source=Most%20Popular&utm_medium=Environment&utm_campaign=Widget%20Promo
