This short video shows three scenarios:
Wet grass
Normal summer grass
After a heatwave
At first glance, it looks like drought alone explains why water doesnโt soak in.
But a lot of people pointed out other factors:
Soil type makes a big difference
Compaction changes infiltration rates
Dry soil can turn hydrophobic and repel water
The cup test itself might leak sideways or seal unevenly
In real storms, the first rain on dry ground often runs off quickly, which is why flash floods are common in arid regions.
So the question is still open.
