To introduce my self: The subject of drought management and resilience in Latin American (LAC) and Caribbean countries is of particular interest to me. In my research, I have observed that water governance practices in the Colombia-Ecuador transboundary river basin region are dominated by political discourse rather than socio-ecological dialogue aimed at enhancing the sustainable development of water resources and services. The current implementation of stakeholder engagement and dialogue is not effective in improving the lives of communities facing multiple challenges, such as insecurity, deforestation, and water pollution caused by mining activities. Despite the existence of international agreements and treaties, they are not strong enough to bring about real change in rural communities. As part of my doctoral research at Wageningen (WURSDC), I aim to contribute to the production of new knowledge on how to address complex problems such as drought. I aspire to help both local and national governments in creating policies that encourage the expansion of sustainable land and water management practices. Moreover, I aim to leverage the latest scientific knowledge to devise and implement efficient drought adaptation and mitigation measures, tools, and research.
