Host Robert C. Brears Founder of Our Future Water Robert C. Brears, founder of Our Future Water, is hosting this event to bring current leaders and future leaders together to make water security a reality. He is the author of Urban Water Security (Wiley), The Green Economy and the Water-Energy-Food Nexus (Palgrave Macmillan), Blue and Green Cities (Palgrave Macmillan), and Natural Resource Management and the Circular Economy (Palgrave Macmillan). Robert is editor of the Climate Resilient Societies Series published with Palgrave Macmillan. Robert is a contributing author for the World Bank’s Water Blog, Asian Development Bank’s Blog, United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s Making It Magazine, and the Green Growth Knowledge Platform’s Insights Blog. He has published widely on water security, water resources management, and related issues and has conducted field research around the world, including Antarctica. Moderator Karin Helmstaedt TV Host and Presenter on Germany’s international broadcaster Deutsche Welle Karin Helmstaedt is a Canadian-born journalist, moderator, and TV host based in Berlin, Germany. She studied in Toronto, Montreal and Paris, and alongside her studies had an impressive career as a member of Canada’s National Swim Team, participating in World Championships, Commonwealth and Pan American Games. It was from the international sporting arena that she embarked on her journalistic career, covering major sporting events, reporting extensively on doping, and eventually moving into broadcasting. Since 1999 she’s been one of the most constant faces on Germany’s global TV broadcaster Deutsche Welle. She hosted the news magazine “Germany Today,” before taking on the network’s flagship culture and lifestyle magazine “Euromaxx,” which she moderates in English and German. Over the years she has interviewed a broad range of personalities including politicians, CEOs, actors, directors, authors, athletes, chefs and musicians. She now draws on all that experience for her additional post as a live Culture Correspondent for DW News. Fluent in English, French and German, Karin is also a sought-after moderator, facilitator and consultant for conferences and events around Europe.
