How new hydropower tech is transforming the off-grid market -
When considering renewable energy technologies, hydropower is often seen as a power source that needs large dams and powerful rivers to produce electricity. However, ESI Africa has found a revolutionary hydropower development that can deliver electricity from river sites that are plentiful and much easier to identify. It is a development that is set to improve lives and greatly contribute in the strive for a net zero world.

Since COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021, the focus on clean energy solutions and the quest for carbon neutrality has accelerated. It is driving the transition to e-mobility, the reduction of greenhouse gases in industry and the move from fossil fuel power to what is fast becoming the prolific deployment of renewable energy resources for electricity supply worldwide. This deployment includes hydropower, one of the oldest sources that comes from various water-based systems: run-of-river, storage (reservoir/dam-based), pumped storage hydro and in-stream technologies.

While large and small hydropower plants have been the mainstay, next-generation hydroelectric distributed power technology has just arrived on the African continent. New tech start-up MyHydro says that it brings together decades of African power sector experience and the advanced engineering solutions of technology firms in the US to power up industries and communities with clean, affordable electricity.
