Not very clear about relationship between pollution in river Piyali and salinity of river Matla vis a vis health of the Parbati river. It is a good write up but requires to explain the above question clearly.

Actually waste water from kolkata comes to River Piyali again Piyali is connected to River Matla which is again connected to Bay of Bengal. The Killa Bridge is the regulator in between this two rivers. IF this bridge collapses then saline water from Matla will mix with the River Piyali and vice versa. If salinity of River Piyali increases then agriculture will be difficult in the banks of the River. Again it is not expected that the waste water of Piyali get mixed with River Matla and degrade the quality of that river as well.
