TAM Ceramics water filter media, systems of granulated ceramics will be large scale for the developing world, for the first time bringing human engagement to community-sized POU water treatment. It is widely acknowledged that municipal-style water treatment is not sustainable in low income communities and that such projects tend to fail within a few years for lack of maintenance. By contrast, for large scale filter systems of TAM Ceramics granulated media, easy maintenance will include, 1) sedimentation of the particles of turbidity using natural flocculants, and, 2) topping off of contaminated water in the large scale filter systems on an as-needed basis. Community engagement will be key, an additional project component including familiarization of system users with the importance of hygienic practices. These will include such practices as hand washing and the cleaning out of water storage containers. TAM's large scale filter systems, once properly embraced will maximize the accomplishment of 2030 goal number 6, water for all by 2030.
