I am a journalist writing for Grid Arendal in Norway and working on a story on the safety implications of poor access to sanitation and water in Africa. In South Africa (where I am based), going to the toilet in informal settlements and areas where people rely on communal facilities can be a matter of life and death. Women are being raped, children murdered, and others robbed. Similar situations apply to the slums of Nairobi, Lagos, and other large cities. I am looking to interview: - experts/researchers/civil society organisations who can tell me more about this (trends, stats, developments, who is most affected and why, implications for society and health, etc) - Organisations who are working towards solutions - People who have an idea of what the solution can/could be - Best practices from other parts of the world - Anyone else who can give me a good insight into the safety aspect of poor access to sanitation and solutions The focus should be pan-Africa (not South Africa). 1.  Hello Miriam; I have just read your other articles linked to here. If I understand correctly you want solutions. And right now. No time for Government programs, conferences on how bad it is, funding sources, inventing new technologies for each situation.  I design eco systems for all levels of use.  Currently mining operations in space and ships that journey long distances that require 100% sustainability.  Africa is much easier. No atmosphere to control. I have 3 main levels of solutions. Local, country, continent.  Nothing fancy. Just instructing people how to use nature and take it from there.  I do have your email and phone number.  If you have access to SKYPE mine is guy_mcgowen.  I think you might appreciate the Sahara Forest Project.  This is not a case of If a solution can be found. It is how soon do you want to begin to save lives and transform Africa into a self sustaining continent with self determination for their natural resources.  my email: biozomesales@biozome.com  Blessing on your efforts and caring.

  2. Hey, you an picked important issue in Africa! I am working for Norwegian Church Aid Ethiopia Office on water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) program. We have projects almost in all corners of the country and as you said access to safe water and sanitation is still an issue and sometimes life threatening. If it is helpful to you I can share you the practical experience of our WASH projects.
