AD Hydropower project is a 192 MW run-off-the-river Hydro Power Plant having a net head of 860 m. It has two power generation units with tail race tunnels, each with Heat Exchanger unit placed in it. The present arrangement is experiencing heavy sediment deposition around heat exchanger units which is affecting its performance and efficiency. A Physical Hydraulic Froudian model was constructed on a scale of 1:10, to understand the reasons for sedimentation and evaluating various intervention measures. Sediments were simulated in the model. It was observed that Low velocities in the vicinity of Heat Exchanger were responsible for such heavy sedimentation around heat exchanger units. It was understood that increasing the turbulence along with velocities would help in effective removal of the silt. The structural intervention, having arrangement of tees and beam in the upstream and downstream vicinity of heat exchanger was found most suitable for this purpose. #infraplanhydrauliclaboratory #hydraulicmodelling #Mathematicalphysicalmodelling
