AbDew Collector Dear Team, AbDew Collector is a gift to our planet and is the result of a prayer made over 50 years ago. It is a simple process that is cheap and works anywhere! It works on the same principal as how moisture from the air condenses on glass or how desert beetles collect water from air. Dew fences in the Andes work the same way. AbDew collector will yield more water due to a larger surface area. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lyz8xuMCcOg Use standard Stretch Wrap plastic; position it between two trees, poles, bamboos etc. Tilt the plastic 30 Degrees from vertical and away from the prevailing wind to create lower pressure, which lowers the dew point and causes water condensation at night or when windy. 100-gauge film is inexpensive and easy to obtain. UV, puncture-resistant and thicker films are commercially available and will last much longer. You can get your supplies from local stores or order on line • Stretch Wrap: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Stretch+Wrap%3B+amazon&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3AStretch+Wrap%3B+amazon • Stretch Wrap U-Haul: U-Haul Stretch Wrap http://www.uhaul.com/MovingSupplies/Protective-stuff/20-Movers-Stretch-Plastic-Wrap?id=740 Saran Wrap: • www.amazon.com/Saran-Premium-Plastic-Wrap-100/dp/B0000DIWNI • Mylar is an excellent choice, a bit pricy yet super strong. Also reflective, which makes it visible to birds and durable in harsh environments:http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Mylar+roll&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3AMylar+roll • Painter’s Weatherall plastic: http://www.amazon.com/TRM-Manufacturing-HD12-Weatherall-Painters/dp/B0083HYABW/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1422402815&sr=8-10&keywords=Plastic+roll • Wax Paper: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=wax%20Paper • Aluminum Foil: http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=aliminum+foil&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=27054307683&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2559747348491087523&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_1vw3her15o_b • Aluminum sheet is the strongest and more expensive than plastic. Available in thickness of .010” or more and wide variations of widths and lengths. It is heavier than plastic and requires a stronger frame and supporting connectors. The advantages are that it is very durable, lasting for decades, and is not damaged by weather or sand or debris in the air. It also reflects heat, is visible to birds and even bats at night, and will not tear. If film is used, its weight will make it sink lower in the middle of the span and will direct the drips to the center for collection in a container. Film needs to be positioned at a slight angle (perpendicular to wind direction) to direct the water drops to the lowest point for collection. One or more pieces of scotch tape on the bottom edge will also guide the drops into a container. Stretch film, plastic, aluminum foil or wax paper can be reinforced by fishing line, metal wire, cord or rope taped on top to make it stronger. Even without the use of a collector, drips from condensed dew will provide much-needed moisture in dry lands, helping the growth of vegetation. Leaves and branches of new vegetation will further create a large contact area that further condenses the dew, adding more moisture to the soil, which eventually will bring back creeks, rivers and lakes. More moisture in the soil will also bring back micro flora, and fungi, encouraging the return of vegetation, bees, and thereby increasing the growth of food crops. Running water will also bring back aquatic life like fish, shrimp, clams and all other aquatic wildlife, again providing healthy and nourishing food for all of us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAw_Zzge49chttp://www.geofflawton.com/sq/15449-geoff-lawton Please help our planet and forward this to all you can, especially to research and humanitarian groups, universities and local government for experimentation and enhancements. We need to find answers for the following issues: 1. The best choice of material (durability, ease of use, cost, handling etc.); Finding best film, flexible or rigid sheet, fabrics including aluminum fabric. Aluminum fabric or aluminum coated (vacuum deposited) as well as aluminum wool provides large collection area, also chills quicker. 2. Ideal placement and direction of poles and film; in some areas it must be high enough for grazing animals and away from places with large bird populations. The ideal locations are at higher elevations where air is cooler, which helps moisture condensation. 3. Protection for native wild life such as birds and deer (by adding some visual deterrent to avoid collision). Parallel layers of colored or black films could make it more visible for birds, thus minimizing collisions. Adding sprayed on paint, shiny ribbons, or aluminum foil may help. 4. Ultra violet damage, and the impact of sand and other flying debris. 5. Reenforcement for durability such as attached fishing line, cord, wire or rope, taped on top of the film. Fiberglass or other durable tape may be attached to the top edge to increase the strength and longevity of film or foil. 6. Environmental impact, ie: disposal/recycling of film, possible effects on wildlife, etc. 7. Development of large-scale collectors for replenishing drying lakes such as Urmia and Maharloo lakes in Iran, Ural Sea in Russia also major drought in California and many other parts of our planet. http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=84116http://www.untoldiran.com/shiraz/attractions/natural%20attraction/maharlu%20lake.shtmlhttp://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/10/141001-aral-sea-shrinking-drought-water-environment/ 8. Attracting support and implementation by all governments, humanitarian and research groups, schools, colleges and universities in arid regions or any places in need of water.
