The proposed method is not quite correct since the evaporation is not dependent on the surface of the container. However, the evaporation is strongly dependent on the position of the container. If it is exposed to the sun then the evaporation is more intense compared to the case of locating it in shadow. Also, it should be large enough to minimize the effect of birds or small animals drinking water from this container. But, it is betrter than nothing.
