Welcome article on Pumps & Valves – October 2017 issue Dear Industry Colleague, Greetings from Water Today! We are glad to announce BANGLADESH WATER EXPO 2017 scheduled on 5th, 6th & 7th October 2017 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), Dhaka, Bangladesh.  The Event will be focusing on building networks with greater collaboration between different stakeholders in the water & wastewater fraternity and to explore how we can harness innovation to address the most urgent issues facing the world’s water supply.Every year, Water Today publishes EXPO SPECIAL exclusively catering to Water and Wastewater Industry. The Expo Special will be a massive and extensive compilation showcasing addresses, orientation and contact details of exhibitors’ profile who have participated in BANGLADESH WATER EXPO 2017. The Expo Special will also be focusing on “ Pumps & Valves” .Theme note – Pumps & Valves – October 2017 issueGlobally, a majority of the demand for pumps and valves is from their installations in varied end-user industries of oil and gas, power generation, and heavy industries. The Indian market for this equipment also thrives on a similar global pattern, with demand primarily originating from the country's wide-spread oil and gas exploration and production activities, refineries, and other core sectors. Commensurate to the vastness of the Indian end-user industry and the range of applications involved in each segment, the demand for flow control equipment is also high. Large-scale installations are witnessed every year and the demand continues to pick up at a healthy double-digit growth rate.India’s growing economy, increasing middle class, expanding infrastructure and a vast agricultural hinterland are contributing to its water challenges. With prevalent drought conditions in many arid states, ground water levels have been depleting at a rapid pace. This is expected to increase the demand for pressure booster and deep well submersible pumps to draw water from greater depths. Rapid urbanization has also led to migration of people from villages to cities, thus creating pressure on the existing infrastructure including delivery of utility water after removal and treatment of wastewater. This is expected to drive the water treatment sector and hence, demand for pumps. Rising consumption & decreasing supply of uncontaminated water are driving the market of desalination plants for treating seawater, in which pumps play a vital role.     The Indian Pump industry is growing at an annual CAGR of ~10%, which is higher than the international CAGR average of ~6%, owing to the surge in infrastructure development, growth in agriculture and other water intensive industries. The Indian Pump industry offers among the highest net value additions in the engineering industry – of over 20%. Moreover, the domestic market for Indian Pumps is growing at a healthy rate of 16-18% per annum. Rapid growth of the Indian chemical market has stimulated the demand for high quality industrial pumps. The growing demand for lower cost of operation and zero downtime pumps gives India a competitive advantage to offset the labour cost advantage offered by low-cost/low-quality manufacturers in some Asian countries. The growth drivers for Indian pumps include population growth, higher water-intensive food consumption, industrialisation, growing public awareness about drinking water quality, decreasing water quality, lower water levels, and environmental pressure from government bodies on wastewater discharge, thereby amplifying the demand many times over for the recycle and reuse of water. The market size of Pumps is US$ 1.29 billion and Valves is US$ 2 billion. About 16% of Indian pump manufacturing capacity is geared for exports. Global market for industrial valves is expected to reach US$ 75 billion by 2017 with China, Africa, Middle East and India expected to propel the demand. Indian market constitutes ~2.5% of the global market.Government regulations and energy crisis are motivating water pump manufacturers to develop energy efficient productsThus, we see that there is a huge potential for pumps and valves industry along with technology that can channelize the treated water and reach wherever necessary without any leakages and gaps. For the upcoming October 2017 issue of the magazine, we would like to invites you to share your experiences in the form of articles, technical papers and case studies on “ Pumps & Valves” Please inform us of your intent to contribute at the earliest, so that we can evaluate the articles for the publication.   TopicPumps & Valves + Bangladesh Water Expo Special Length2000-4000 wordsInclusionsRelated graphs, tables and images (high-resolution) along with captions + short bio of the author/s (including author’s present designation, educational qualification/s and years of experience in the field)Article DeadlineSeptember 10, 2017You can also send in details about new product launches and press releases for inclusion in the magazine to editor@watertoday.org.   Best regards Water Today - Editorial Team
