South Asia is one of the regions most susceptible to climate shocks. Governments, corporations, and citizens are being tested to their adaptability limits by intensifying heat waves, cyclones, droughts, and floods. More than half of South Asians, or 750 million people in eight countries — Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka — were impacted by one or more climate-related disasters within the past two decades. Up to 800 million people in an area with some of the world's poorest and most vulnerable populations might see their living conditions deteriorate dramatically due to climate change.
