Google goes green, plans to run entirely on renewable energy
The company, whose data centers and offices consume as much electricity as the city of San Francisco, will get its energy from the U.S. Midwest, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden, and its solar from contracts in North Carolina and Chile.
Mid of this year Google has announced that the company has cut its vast data centres’ energy use by 15% by applying artificial intelligence to manage them more efficiently than humans.
Keeping the expectations high from the company Urs Hölzle, Senior VP, Tech Infrastructure wrote in his blog that in 2017 Google will reach 100% #Renewable Energy for their global operations – including both data centers and offices.
Google is world's largest corporate buyer of renewable power with some big commitments for future.
The move to renewable energy is also a business move, says Hölzle. He said in his blog that “renewables are increasingly becoming the lowest cost option.”
