Bayer-Monsanto Merger - Biggest Deal of 2016

The world's largest seed company, Monsanto, is being bought by Germany-based chemical company Bayer.

aHqe6lE.jpgMonsanto, the world's biggest producer of seeds for farmers, has agreed to be bought by Bayer for $66 billion.

This merger will create an agricultural powerhouse in the upcoming era.

It's the year's biggest deal and it will create the world's largest supplier of seeds and farm chemicals, with $26 billion in combined annual revenue from agriculture.

The deal faces a lot of regulatory hurdles and critics, though. Agriculture experts are claiming that this merger could leave farmers from all over the world dependent on just few companies.

At the same time, Germany does not have a history of strong attachment to genetically modified food. It will be interesting to see how this merger is going to keep both consumers and environment happy in the long run.

  1. Does this acquisition include ownership of the Glyphosate Technology .  I am under the impression that almost all of Monsanto's seed sales are centered around GMO Technology and if so, this will be a merger or purchase by Bayer that will bring down the reputation of a well respected company, Bayer.  Or, this will be an opportunity for Bayer to take out a very ugly company, Monsanto, and take the GMO Technology centered around Glyphosate, off the market.

    1. 80% of GMO Share is owned by Monsanto. This may be more like monopoly like operation, and contaminating the other non-GM fields.   I don't know a lot about Bayer, hoping it's more a decent company than Monsanto. but Monsanto GM Seeds already have done much damages around the world's fields and farms and livelihood being destroyed.   What can I do.    Supporting local organic farmers, as much as possible. GM has never been proved to be Safe to Consume - and GM grains often used in livestock feed - That is partly why Grass Fed is recommended. but could cost you more.
