The greatest challenge in WASH generally lies with the unwillingness of most beneficiaries to adopt to the desired change in attitude and also to adapt the models being promoted for WASH. This is generally because of the interest the international community is paying to this change process which to most beneficiaries who chose not to abide/follow the right path will always feel they are doing the change agents a lot of good by adhering to the best practices being promoted. In some communities especially here in Nigeria, members are looking forward to gaining certain benefits from the program apart from the health benefits. This leaves much to ponder about because it is not clear if this desire for benefits is borne from the extreme poverty status or mere greed because in most cases, those wanting to benefit are the well-to-do of these communities. It is note-worthy that the issue of latrine is one that does not need politics but a strong commitment to this change and the ability for us to imbibe the culture of good and decent living. If this happens, we would not have to over-flog the issue of WASH in general and the provision and usage of clean toilets in particular.

People who have access to safe sanitation wont understand the deep grief behind not having a toilet. Join hands with water-aid and say thank you to toilet, on the occasion of world toilet day.
