Global leakage success shared at Asia Water

Delegates to the Asia Water 2024 conference, taking place in Malaysia in April, will hear about leakage reduction initiatives in London, UK, and Davao City and Cotabato City in the Philippines.
Ovarro global leakage solutions director Tony Gwynne will discuss an initiative with Thames Water, the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. The utility selected Ovarro’s leak detection as-a-service model that utilises the LeakInsight platform to deliver a three-year leakage reduction contract.
Asia Water is taking place at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 23-25 April 2024. Tony will deliver technology seminar, ‘Reducing non-revenue-water on plastic networks with fixed hydrophones’, on 24 April 2024.
Successful outcomes of projects in Davao City and Cotabato City will also be shared at the event.
Davao is the largest city on the island of Mindanao. The population’s water supply is managed by Davao City Water District (DCWD), which has been challenged to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) losses by 1% per annum until it reaches a target of 20% NRW.
The district has invested in advanced correlating noise loggers from Ovarro’s Enigma range – 240 of the Enigma3m model and 60 of the Enigma3HyQ model – as part of its drive to secure future water supplies.
In the week after installation in mid-2022, the Enigma3m correlating loggers identified a point of interest in an area that had been scanned with ground microphones several times before, and where there was no surface evidence of any leak.
The DCWD team dug up the road and uncovered a leak with an estimated flow rate of over 1,000m3 per day. Once repaired, the surrounding suburb experienced a 1 bar (15PSI) rise in water pressure.
Ovarro technology has detected similarly elusive leaks on plastic pipes in Cotabato City, also on the island of Mindanao.
Both initiatives were supported by Ovarro’s partner in the Philippines, Eastasia Solutions Technologies Corporation, which will exhibit alongside Ovarro. Project team members will be available to share insights and answer questions.
Gwynne said, “Ovarro’s focus is to achieve clients’ leakage targets and ultimately secure future water supplies for utilities and municipalities in Asia and around the world. I look forward to discussing the Thames Water case study in more detail at Asia Water, as well as success stories on both metal and plastic pipes globally.”
Tony Gwynne’s seminar ‘Reducing non-revenue-water on plastic networks with fixed hydrophones’ will be presented at Asia Water on 24 April 2024, at 10.30am-11am, kiosk 2, hall 2.
Ovarro will exhibit at booth number L223 alongside Eastasia Solutions Technologies Corporation
