Economic Value of Social Participation in Water Pollution Control in the South of Tehran

Unsustainable Water Resource Management in Iran examined : Re-use of wastewater poses a health risk.

Iranian Water Crisis has been chronic, escalated by an inadequate water management and policy placed by Iranian water governing body.

There is a trend to utilize sewage water applying to agricultural practice; such practice primarily poses a health risk. In the United States, in order to re-use sewage water applying to farming practice, sewage water needs to be reclaimed to a point that poses no microbiological threat to crops and people's health.

The paper examines people's participation in water pollution control and the impact on their hygiene & health.

It also examines how properly reclaimed water can help reduce hygienic and health problems.

  1. As I spent 2 years in Iran some 50 years ago, l can say that sanitation was very low on all water use. It is imperative to treat sewage to completely remove all contamination. The danger is not only in the crops but in the water that replenishes the ground water. Of I was the official in charge of water supply in Iran I would proceed to design and build a very large desalinization plant on the Caspian Sea.
