Wärtsilä and COSCO partner to produce ballast water management system
With this agreement, COSCO will gain access to technology and the rights to produce Wärtsilä Aquarius Electro Chlorination (EC) BWMS under licence, for application on ships in the global marine market.
Wärtsilä ship power BWMS director Dr Joe Thomas said: "This is a landmark agreement forming an important new partnership, which facilitates the supply of Wärtsilä Aquarius EC BWMS to a significant part of the Chinese marine market, both for new-build ships and retrofit projects.
"By combining the strengths of our two companies, we can more effectively meet the growing demand for EC based BWMS in the short-term and for medium to large vessel applications."
However, Wärtsilä will retain ownership of the Aquarius EC technology and all associated intellectual property rights.
Wärtsilä's BWMS product will be supplied with type approvals in compliance with IMO and USCG legislations.
