Monsanto, America's Monster

Few corporations in the world are as loathed—and as sinister—as Monsanto. But the threat it poses to people and planet could be reaching new heights, as the World Health Organization has recently upgraded Monsanto's main product as carcinogenic to humans.

With protests against the agrochemical giant held in over 40 countries in May, learn why the global movement against Monsanto is of critical importance to our future.

In this episode of The Empire Files, Abby Martin issues a scathing expose on the corporate polluter, chronicling it's rise to power, the collusion of its crimes by the US government, and highlighting the serious danger it puts us in today.

  1. Yoshimi,  You are not going to get any where in the US with out first getting the FDA in line.  Monsanto has control of the FDA thru years of getting their people on the board.  Just Google the history of who is part of the FDA and what is the history of each person.  I worked for Monsanto for about 15 years and mostly in the Ag. Division and left them because I was feeling like you explain in your comments here.  I could no longer shave because I had to look myself in the mirror.  The idea of trying to increase yield so that we can feed the hungry is a noble one, they, Monsanto, have the right idea, just the wrong direction.  Glyphosate, is dangerous but they even tell their employees that it is not dangerous and for a time I believed them.

  2. Those Who support, and damage and basically destroy the healthy ecological system via Monsanto Chemicals - You and your conducts and ethics will be judged at the end of your Life.  God bless you and your entire family.  Truly. Likely cancers, all sorts of auto immune diseases and autism, dysfunctional metabolism here and there.

  3. Those People who SUPPORT MONSANTO : You better look at the hard facts on Health, Illness and Correlation - Mounting Evidience suggest that not just Glyphasate but RoundUp Products are LINKED TO AUTISM, AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE AND many other health sensitivities and problems. Just because you are not ill does not make any good excuse or if you Work for Monsanto, you should be very worried and shamed.

  4. Genetically modified food always poses threat to people and plant. It cannot be denied whatever argument given by environmentalist. It should be completely stopped. Scientists should more focus on increasing the yield of crops organically by concentrating their research works on these aspects.

  5. Those are pretty ridiculous accusations and hyperbole E. Hugh.  I am an environmental professional using a widely read and reasonably balanced body of knowledge to express concern about a posted comment, and all I'd actually said is that Nicole's statements are more unfounded than is the documentary that she mocks and that the use of Monsanto's GMOs does not in itself reduce pesticide use.  On what basis do you then conclude that I have a personal vendetta with Monsanto and that my single comment is a "continued attack" and "disgusting"?

I don't want to start a flaming fight, but your statements appear to me belligerent and stupid, particularly the idea that I as a commenter have a responsibility to account for all other pesticide companies if I'm going to mention the one that the documentary that we're commenting on is purely about.  And hasn't 3M claimed sticky notes, rather than Monsanto?

    1 Comment reply

    1. Personal attack.....a sure sign of your inadequacy. O.K. it was 3M... my mistake but MONSANTO have done loads of good work. Maybe I am "stupid" as you say, but my Ph.D. seems to counter that remark. All I want to know is why is it that MONSANTO seems to be the target each and every time, it sure would be good to see other companies names up in your headlights from time to time. I do not work for MONSANTO,  I doubt very much that Nicole does either, my question is " just what group do you work for?"  Yoshimi  Yoshida looks like she has some axe to grind however she is not forthcoming with her reasons to mount attacks. Transparency, no one wants it, in cases like this I truly wonder why ???>?  Assumptions.....keep making them...you will always be either 100% wrong  or  to some extent, right. HYPERBOLE...noit according to my dictionary. Ridiculous, just your opinion.,

  6. I've worked for many years as an environmental regulator and the most common excuse in my experience is: "Me, what about those guys over there???"  You don't mention whether you work for Monsanto Nicole?  It would be good to be clear and, for the record, I'm neither a greenie  nor in the industry.

I do hope that you have some facts that you accuse this pretty well researched docco of not having?  If by spending millions on reducing harmful pesticides you mean the ongoing research of bioengineering target plants to be immune to Monsanto pesticides, that investment is purely self interest and would inevitably lead to more pesticide use, not less.

  7. It most certainly seems to me that you have some personal vendetta against a truly great company that has spent billions of dollars on research and produced many, numerous products that have done nothing but help mankind in many ways. Sticky notes is just one. Monsanto is a company that has securely in it's focus the health of it's clients/customers and is watched most vigilantly by various and numerous U.S government agencies.

There are many companies similar to Monsanto producing similar products, perhaps you need to widen your vendetta and hate focus and look at a wider spectrum of corporations in the same or similar business and name them all.

As Nicole Griffin has now stated your articles are nothing but propaganda  and tey are extremely disappointing coming from what you put yourself out to be, an industry professional. A true professional would never let their own biases and personal feelings colour their publications or articles in general.

Your continued attacks I find personally disgusting , even more so when coming from one such as yourself.

    EHP.

  8. This article is nothing but propaganda and it is disappointing that industry professionals do not reference check articles or seek the facts. Monsanto in the last 15 + years ha invested millions of dollars into research and technology that has resulted in enormous reductions in harmful pesticides.

To all the critics of Monsanto how do you pose we feed the world unless we continue to produce more food with the same resources...

If you want to point the finger at public poisoning have a closer look at Flint Michigan!!

    1. These older generations in their 50s to 80+ dont really seem to understand the consequence of the poison Monsanto implanted in your gene.   :)  Such promiscuous approach must be eradicated, once and for all.

    2. Go back and do YOUR OWN INVESTIGATION, isnt that a proper response ?

Do your own investigation - you seem to Need to be Provided such thing. A high schooler ? Pls,. do your investigation. Then comment.

Stephanie Seneff is a Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. She received the B.S. degree in Biophysics in 1968, the M.S. and E.E. degrees in Electrical Engineering in 1980, and the Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1985, all from MIT. For over three decades, her research interests have always been at the intersection of biology and computation: developing a computational model for the human auditory system, understanding human language so as to develop algorithms and systems for human computer interactions, as well as applying natural language processing (NLP) techniques to gene predictions. She has published over 170 refereed articles on these subjects, and has been invited to give keynote speeches at several international conferences. She has also supervised numerous Master's and PhD theses at MIT. In 2012, Dr. Seneff was elected Fellow of the International Speech and Communication Association (ISCA).

In recent years, Dr. Seneff has focused her research interests back towards biology. She is concentrating mainly on the relationship between nutrition and health. Since 2011, she has published over two dozen papers in various medical and health-related journals on topics such as modern day diseases (e.g., Alzheimer, autism, cardiovascular diseases), analysis and search of databases of drug side effects using NLP techniques, and the impact of nutritional deficiencies and environmental toxins on human health.
