Our experience in Israel is similar, montmorilinite is the factor!! We used several types of concrete linings, precast, pored concrete, and reinforced concrete.. Eventually most areas have converted to drip irrigation in order to reduce loss of water, which is the main factor as water is becoming less available. Drip irrigatio needs less work and in many cases us eventually cheaper for the farmer.
