UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR) has released the latest version of its Carbon Accounting Workbook (CAW), providing companies with the consistent, science-backed data needed for accurate emissions reporting and critical decarbonisation strategies.
The CAW supports regulatory reporting for companies across England and Wales and mandatory and voluntary climate related disclosure requirements under various legal frameworks, such as the Streamlined Energy & Carbon Reporting (SECR).
This year’s updated CAW package includes:
The latest version of the CAW tool - free for UKWIR members and available to purchase for non-members
Integrated UK Government conversion factors (v19 has the 2024 factors), publicly available emissions for chemicals commonly used in the water industry and UK water industry custom factors for water, wastewater and sludge treatment and disposal based on UKWIR research
A comprehensive user guide and methodology report
“By maintaining and continually improving tools like the CAW, UKWIR is actively supporting its members in their commitment to climate action, providing the essential foundation for data-driven, successful decarbonisation strategies and consistent and transparent disclosures,” explains UKWIR CEO, Mike Rose.
Since its launch in 2007, UKWIR’s CAW has been fundamental to the water industry’s ability to estimate and report in their greenhouse gas emissions. Having a single industry tool means companies’ reporting is consistent, informed by latest science and is aligned with evolving best practice and standards.
