Our anthropocentric view is the most troubling underlying problem. If it doesn't have a direct cause and effect negative impact on human activity it is not a consideration for the human race. Long before the impacts are felt by humans the natural world is impacted by our actions. Water is life, universally, and water is a critical element in the natural world shifting physical dynamics. Every thing is connected by water as well. If we do not evolve in this critical dynamic and become part of the solution rather than a blight on the natural world in profligate resource consumption and fouling of land, sea and air everywhere across the globe, we are doomed. It may sound somewhat contrived, but we need to become better stewards for the natural world to become sustainable. This is one of the premises behind the evolution of the wastewater industry from just treatment to achieve arbitrary human pollution limits, to capturing the maximum value from the community's used water resource. By recapturing the resource, it is no longer a pollutant, but a renewable resource which includes the almost the entire original water volume. This industry transition, embraced globally could very well be the turning point for sustainability for our world and a dramatic shift in the local circular economic and resource dynamic of water. If water is wealth, why are we throwing the baby out with the bathwater? Why are we throwing away the bathwater all together? Smart Buildings, Smart Communities, Smart Cities are human creations that blend with the natural world, they do not try to conquer it. We just need to become "smarter" and our world will become more sustainable. In water resource captured value and in community resource resiliency, sustainability and in the potential for a better quality of life for every lifeform which is the miracle of our watery world.
