My experience in similar climatic conditions have shown that the salinity . chlorine content is most important.. If it is more than 200 mg/liter the soil will eventually become saline and most crops will not be able to exist/ Even on sandy soils the problem is serious. In the Imperial Valley of Southern California it took many years to reduce yields, but then the problem is crucial/ Complete water samples several times every year are necessary to unsure proper yields. The onlly crop to continue to produce economical crops over time is date pams, but eventually the yield per tree goes down.
